Cristiano Ronaldo was born on February 5, 1985, in Madeira, Portugal, where his career began. He began playing football at an early age and, at the age of eight, joined a neighbourhood team called Andorinha. His talent was soon obvious, and by the time he was 12 years old, he had transferred to the bigger team Nacional. Sporting CP, one of Portugal's finest clubs, sent scouts to observe Ronaldo when he was just 16 years old. He relocated to Lisbon to enrol in Sporting's youth programme, where he furthered his education. He made his professional debut for Sporting CP in 2002 at the age of 17.His Sporting CP performances caught the eye of numerous elite European clubs, and in 2003 he signed with English Premier League team Manchester United for a then-record transfer fee for a teenager. Ronaldo became one of the best players in the world during his tenure at Manchester United, when he won three English Premier League championships and the UEFA Champions League.
